Lunarpages Sponsors HostChart Contest

Lunarpages, an award winning provider of hosting solutions, announced that is sponsoring HostChart’s Programmer Challenge. The contest will allow programmers to show off their skills and compete with other talents throughout the world.

“This is the first of its kind competition at this level,” says event organizer Rodney Ringler, “and with $10,000 in cash and prizes it ensures this event will draw some of the best Web site designers from around the world.”

The contest starts on July 1st and will run for six weeks. The winner of the contest will be announced on August 21st and will receive $10,000 in cash and gifts.

IBM Increasing Size of Security Practice

IBM announced that they will be spending $43 million throughout the next three years to increase the size of their security practice in Canada. Their facility in Toronto will be expanded and funding will also go towards increasing the amount of IT security professionals.

“Canadian companies are increasingly aware that IT security is a serious issue that will affect their profits,” says Nicole Stampatori, national practice leader for security, identity and privacy, IBM Canada. “Since we opened the center, our security practice has doubled in size, illustrating that the threat of cyber crime and identity theft is growing and that Canadian businesses, both large and small, recognize it.”

The security business is booming in Canada, and is expected to grow over 8% in 2006.

Google Launches More Services

Search engine giant Google announced three new services recently. The services include Google Co-Op, Google Notebook and Google Desktop 4. The Co-Op is in beta version, what else, and is basically a place where developers can get together to share information.

Google Notebook will provide users with a way to save search information, clip text and images from sites for later browsing and save them to an online “notebook” for later use.

The enhancements for Google Desktop 4 includes the new Google Gadgets, which are similar to desktop widgets. Google Trends was also announced and will provide users with a way to examine search data, and is seen as an improvement on Google’s Zeitgeist

“Google Co-op and the other new services announced today combine the power of Google’s technology with the context, knowledge, and unique expertise of individuals,” said Jonathan Rosenberg, Senior Vice President, Product Management, Google Inc.

MaxiumASP Adds More Datacenter Space

MaxiumASP, an NT hosting provider, announced that they have added more datacenter space at their portion of Peak 10’s Kentucky facility. An additional 2500 square feet have been added. According to the company, the “data center provides multiple high speed Internet connections through fully redundant OC-12 connections supplied by Qwest and ATT.”

“We are very proud of the design and layout of the new data center and we want to share what it has to offer with our customers,” said Wade Lewis, Managing Partner of MaximumASP. “MaximumASP provides advanced infrastructure and security solutions to customers located around the world; the virtual tour represents these investments, while also providing customers with a detailed view into the actual data center environment and core systems. Our data center virtual tour is also an excellent way for customers to visit the facility online if an onsite visit is not feasible.”
