Dedicated Place
Dedicated Place currently has several different levels of dedicated solutions, most of which are quite reasonably priced. For this review, we’re going to take a look at their DP-AMD SEMPRON 2600 which starts at $75 per month. Please keep in mind that there is a $25 set-up fee, but this is pretty low considering what other companies charge for a similar dedicated plan.
An 80 gig hard drive comes with this dedicated server, as well as 1000 gigs of monthly data transfer, and 512 megs of RAM. These limits are good for this price range and should give most sites more than enough space and transfer for their needs. This server would be well-suited for a large business that needs to upgrade from a shared or VPS plan and still needs room to grow in the future. As you may have guessed from the name of the plan, the processor for this server is the AMD Sempron 2600. While this may not have the perceived power of an Intel processor, it should be sufficient for most applications.
8 IP addresses are provided, five of which are usable. You’ll be able to select from the following Operating Systems for your server: FreeBSD, OpenBSD, Linux or Windows, but the Windows OS will cost an additional $20 to $30 per month. For an NT dedicated plan, this is still pretty well priced. You’ll have your choice of the following control panels, for an additional monthly fee: Plesk with a 30 domain license for an additional $17, DirectAdmin for an extra $20, CPanel with WHM for an additional $30, Plesk Power Pack with 100 domains for $30 or Plesk Power Pack with an unlimited amount of domains for $40 additional. It’s nice to see this kind of selection in this price range.
These servers are managed and provide Kernel Upgrades, OS patches, Initial Control Panel Setup, Control Panel Updates / Upgrades, Daily Auto Backups Configurations, Backup Restoration and much more. This service is included in the price, which is fantastic. Unlimited 24/7 technical support is offered, as well as a 24/7 server reboot service. The technical support is limited to email or their online helpdesk, or if you prefer, you can check out their customer forums. While it is always nice to see toll-free telephone support with a dedicated server, this company does a good job of providing a variety of managed services for free, which more than makes up for the lack of phone service.
Add-ons for this server include larger hard drives starting at $20 per month, more bandwidth for an additional $150 per month, 16 IP addresses for an additional $8 per month, or up to 4 gigs of memory for an additional $70 per month. This plan contains several important features such as managed services, a low price and great technical support, and with the right control panel, you can keep your costs under $100 per month.
